It was decided by the clinical team that Radio Therapy was the best option for my Prostate Cancer with the best chance for the best outcome for me. I saw Tracey who is the consultant radiologist prior to starting my treatment. She ran me through my course of treatment and all the possible side effects and that they were aiming for a cure, but with no guarentees. I was reassured by her knowledge and her professional manner. All through the treatment, which was an arduous 7 weeks 5 days a week at the Rosemere Cancer centre at Preston Hospital, I was able if need be able to contact her or the Nurse specialist Andrew Hunnweth. I only needed to contact them on two occasions and although I had to leave a message both times, I was called back within a few hours. On both occasions they were able to put my mind at rest. Now my treatment has ended I had an appointment with Tracey within 6 weeks to review the treatment and my ongoing care. I had a blood test prior to my appointment which showed my PSA level has fallen from 7.5 prior to treatment to 0.24. They will keep monitoring this for the next two years. All remains to be said is that I have not been let down by the health professionals I have come in contact with.

Tracey Ellis is a very knowledgeable Oncologist who comes across a warm, caring professional. From day one Tracey explained all the options open to me, and answered all my queries with detailed explanations. She was reassuring to my personal needs and fully explained the various steps I would take, and the reasoning behind them. As well as being clinical and professional Tracey could also inject a bit of humour when some light relief was called for. It surprises me not one bit to see Tracey has been given the IWantGreatCare Award. Fully deserved! One thing I feel could be improved. It's a little uncomfortable to have staff wondering around the waiting rooms calling out names in order to find the next patient. Not that we have anything to be ashamed of. Just a little more privacy would be welcome and surely a way could be found to give this. Also, in my case I am slightly deaf and couldn't always catch the name being called. Not the staff's fault - it's the system they are given to work with. I actually found all the staff Fantastic!

Very thorough and caring. Explained everything thoroughly before my radiotherapy and the possible side effects both during and after treatment.

Tracey dedicated considerable time to explain my case, the proposed treatment, possible side-effects, and encouraged me to share my own concerns. These were discussed frankly, and all in a way which I could understand. These meetings resulted in me having complete confidence in the treatment that was to follow. As a result of her interest in me, I feel she knows me better than my own GP, and her knowledge and expertise provides complete assurance that this was the best course of treatment to have had. This excellence is backed-up by superb Radiotherapy Equipment, operated by enthusiastic, caring staff. At present staff spend time wandering around trying to find patients by calling people's names. I feel a new "Patient Call" system (like you are given whilst waiting in restaurants) would reduce this pointless time, and maintain a higher degree of patient confidentiality. It would need a central desk at which patients could register and collect a disc, and a link between each Treatment Room and the Desk to call "Next patient". With all the remaining operation in the Unit being so slick, it seems out-of-place that this archaic method of calling/finding patients persists.
